Tips & Tricks

A photo session with children can be overwhelming from the unknown of how it will go. Children don’t always have the same plans as us, which is why the below tips will definitely help with your upcoming session.

  • Don’t sweat the small stuff. If you are stressed out and irritable, the kids will play off of those emotions. Try to relax and make it seem like a fun family trip. Kiddos do much better when their parents are enjoying themselves. I know how difficult it is to get the kids dressed and out the door in perfect condition. Pick your battles. Sometimes, the difference in curling your daughters hair or keeping it straight is not as big of a deal as you think it will be. Think of the bigger picture!
  • Make the session fun. Let them have their silly photos. Try not to stress too much on how your child is behaving. I promise, they do not bother me one bit. We want them as comfortable as possible. For every silly photo, there will be a picture perfect one.
  • Be prepared. Bringing extra snacks & some goodies, such as candy, can be the perfect bribe to get that perfect portrait. Sometimes bringing an extra set of hands who wont be in the photos is a great idea. Especially if you want to snag some photos of just mom & dad. All though, i have held my fair share of babies while photographing mom & dad! So, don’t think we can’t get some images of you two if you dont have an extra person! Make sure that you plan your photoshoot during a time of day that works with your child’s schedule. Try not to plan their session during nap time or at bedtime. They should be fully rested and fed for the best outcome!
  • Be patient & calm. Try to let go and let the photographer do their job. Sometimes the best photos are the ones where your child is just doing their thing. Let your photographer do their thing and your photos will turn out amazing.
  • Just have fun. I promise, that even the sessions that feel like they were just a complete mess, always turn out with some amazing images. Trust that your photographer knows what they are doing and they have your best interest at heart. You got this.
